Now that the kids are out of school, it is time for some summer vacation fun. My little girl loved her first experience swimming in the lake with this week. She kept saying, "More water." repeatedly after we returned back to the house. We have added a new location, Lake Lure North Carolina to our travel guides section. This secluded vacation spot centers around a man-made lake shaped like a maltese cross.

| I saw cool story about the segway inventor Dean Camen recently. The aerodynamics of these space age like machines are so cool. Apparantly, you can go on segway tours while on vacation. Here is a blub from Jim's Travel Tips blog, On a recent trip to the Phoenix, Arizona area my wife and I took a Segway “tour” in the desert around our resort. In a word – fantastic! The learn curve to maneuver these devices is extremely easy. We thoroughly enjoyed every second of our 90 minute experience on these 2-wheeled “personal transporters”. | When tipping in the US or Canada, 15% is customary with 20% for exceptional service. I usually take my bill and easily determine 10% by moving the decimal, then taking half of that and adding it up in my head for 15% Be aware that in some countries tipping more than a few cents is uncomplementary to your server. This was very difficult to comprehend when I traveled to Spain and Belgium, since you would be scorned if you left just a quarter on a table at an establishment in the states. |

Many movie lovers flock to Lake Lure in search of making their film dreams a reality by walking where their favorite stars acted out memorable movie scenes. Tourists can take boat rides along the deep blue lake and learn about how the area's pristine landscape served as a memorable backdrops for such movies as Dirty Dancing, Last of the Mohicans, Firestarter, Thunder Road, and A Breed Apart.
Dirty Dancing (1987)
Although the summer romance between Johnny and Baby, in the 1987 summer hit Dirty Dancing, was set in New York, much of the movie was filmed in Lake Lure and locations in the nearby town of Asheville. The footbridge and what is remaining of the film's camp buildings can be found about 1/2 mile from the Four Seasons Cottages. For directions to these Dirty Dancing scene locations by land, take Boys Camp Road and turn right on Chapel Point Road. The stars of the movie, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey stayed at the Lake Lure Inn and Spa while filming Dirty Dancing, which is the setting for Kellerman's Resort in the famous film.
Firestarter (1984)
Firestarter is a 1984 Stephen King thriller depicting the struggles of young Charlene "Charlie" MacGee, played by Drew Barrymore, who possesses amazing abilities, such as pyrokinesis. The small cottage where Charlie's father, played by David Keith, fights with the kidnappers can been seen by boat from Sunset Cove. You will also notice the stone gates and bridge found at the main entrance to Chimney Rock Park in the movie, Firestarter.
